Still In My Heart (The Hex Hector HQ2 Remix)

Released in 2000 under Capitol Records, this 12-inch promotional vinyl features the Hex Hector and HQ2 remix of Tracie Spencer's ballad Still In My Heart. The release was part of a concerted effort by the label to reposition Spencer within the thriving dance and club music scene of the turn of the millennium. By tapping Hex Hector and HQ2, prominent figures in the dance-remix landscape at the time, Capitol sought to transform the R&B radio track into an uptempo club staple, catering to the aesthetic demands of high-energy gay bars and dance floors that defined the era's pop culture.

The production relies on the signature sound of late 90s and early 2000s remix culture, characterized by driving basslines, synthetic piano flourishes, and extended arrangements designed for discotheque utility. While the original recording highlighted Spencer's vocal capabilities, this specific iteration demonstrates the industry-wide trend of commissioning 'HQ2' reworks to secure airplay in dance-oriented markets. The record remains a focused piece of promotional history, illustrating the tactical shifts labels employed to extend the commercial life of mid-tempo tracks through aggressive remixing.
