Where it came from
The Strobelight X-Press / Forget The World release is a highly sought-after white label 12-inch vinyl issued in 2004. It emerged during a period when the London-based electronic music trio X-Press 2 was experimenting with high-profile sampling, notably utilizing a vocal sample from The Doors' 'Five to One' for the track 'The Strobelight X-Press'. The record was pressed independently, serving as a limited-run promotional tool that allowed the group to test the track in club environments before any wider distribution.
The design of this release reflects the minimalist aesthetic typical of early-2000s white label pressings, focusing on utility rather than elaborate art. By sampling Jim Morrison’s iconic vocals, the producers sought to bridge the gap between classic rock sensibilities and the driving, progressive house sound that defined their career. Reception among DJs at the time was strong, as the record provided a unique, unauthorized-style bridge between genres that became a staple in deep house sets across the UK dance scene.
