Where it came from
This 1977 single was produced to commemorate the annual Ohio River Ramblin' Raft Race, a popular community event in Louisville, Kentucky, that gained significant cultural momentum throughout the 1970s. The record was issued on the independent Rafter Records label, specifically to serve as a promotional anthem for the competition, which saw thousands of participants navigating the river on makeshift vessels.
The musical direction of the project, credited to The Beta Bizarre Boogie Band with production work involving Tom Freeman, captures the lighthearted, eclectic spirit of local radio hits from that era. While the record is an obscure piece of regional Americana, it remains a notable artifact of Kentucky's festival history, designed primarily as a functional souvenir for event attendees rather than for widespread commercial distribution.
