Tschaikowsky Dornroschen (Grosser Querschnitt)

This release, a major cross-section of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, was issued by EMI Electrola in 1974. It emerged during a period when the German subsidiary of EMI was aggressively cataloging the great ballet scores, catering to the enduring demand for high-fidelity classical recordings in the European market. The production reflects the label's focus on standardized, high-quality pressings that made the dense, romantic textures of Tchaikovsky accessible to a domestic audience.

The album serves as a curated distillation of the full-length ballet, intended to highlight the melodic sophistication and rhythmic vitality of Tchaikovsky’s most opulent work. Its design adheres to the clean, professional aesthetics of mid-seventies EMI Electrola, prioritizing readability and identification of the featured suite movements. It was received as a competent, standard performance of the repertoire, serving as a reliable entry point for listeners seeking a comprehensive overview of the score without committing to the full multi-disc set.
