Turini, Merula, Dornel, Marais

This recording was produced during the late 20th century under the His Master's Voice label, a cornerstone of classical music distribution. It showcases the work of the Quadro Hotteterre, a baroque ensemble dedicated to the historically informed performance of 17th and 18th-century chamber music. The selection highlights the evolution of instrumental styles across Europe, featuring compositions by Italian masters Francesco Turini and Tarquinio Merula alongside French composers Louis-Antoine Dornel and Marin Marais.

The ensemble's approach was guided by the rigorous academic standards of the era's early music movement, aiming to capture the textures and nuances of the Baroque period. By pairing the contrapuntal agility of the Italian tradition with the refined ornamentation characteristic of the French school, the recording serves as a scholarly yet accessible exploration of the baroque repertoire. Upon release, it was appreciated by enthusiasts of period-instrument performance for its cohesive interpretation and the clarity of its technical execution.
