Where it came from
U-Turn was released in 2002 as a promotional single through BMG UK & Ireland to capitalize on the international success of Usher's third studio album, 8701. The track, produced by the G4orce production team, was intended to bridge the gap between Usher's established R&B sound and the more uptempo, club-oriented production styles popular in the UK market at the time.
The release was designed to serve as an exclusive UK offering, featuring a distinct catalog number, UTURN1, that set it apart from standard domestic pressings. While the production aimed to showcase a grittier, more rhythmic edge, it remained a niche collector's item within the broader Usher discography, noted primarily by enthusiasts of international promotional vinyl and early 2000s commercial R&B variants.
