Uh-Uhm (El Embuste)

Released on the CBS label during the mid-1970s, Uh-Uhm (El Embuste) stands as a quintessential representation of the tropical music scene in the Dominican Republic. July Mateo, a multi-instrumentalist and bandleader often referred to as Rasputín, crafted this recording during a period when merengue was undergoing significant modernization. The track reflects the rhythmic vitality and brass-heavy arrangements that characterized the evolving sound of the era, positioning Mateo as a pivotal figure in popularizing these infectious, dance-oriented arrangements for international audiences.

The production leans into the hallmark aesthetic of 1970s Latin recording studios, emphasizing a punchy percussion section and layered horn arrangements designed for both radio play and the vibrant nightlife of Santo Domingo. While information regarding the specific graphic design of the DIS-25003 sleeve is archival in nature, the record remains highly regarded by collectors of Caribbean music for its authentic capture of the genre's transition from traditional folk roots to the polished, high-energy merengue style that would later dominate Latin music charts globally.
