Un-UK

Un-UK was released in 1999 as a promotional single for Pitchshifter’s major label debut album, 'www.pitchshifter.com'. Coming out of the Nottingham industrial metal scene, the band was transitioning toward a more electronic, drum-and-bass-infused sound that sought to bridge the gap between heavy rock and digital dance culture. The release was part of an effort by MCA Records to capitalize on the band's growing reputation for blending aggressive aesthetics with high-tech production.

The design of the single reflects the late 1990s fascination with digital motifs and the encroaching internet age. Much of the visual identity for the album cycle was helmed by the band’s internal creative team, aiming to present an anti-establishment, high-speed aesthetic that mirrored the chaotic, distorted nature of their music. Upon its release, it was received as a deliberate provocation, aimed at fans of both industrial metal and the burgeoning big beat electronic movement.
