Where it came from
Released in 1966 on the Polydor label, this record features the acerbic wit of Werner Finck, one of Germany's most prominent cabaret artists and a survivor of the Third Reich's concentration camps. The recording captures Finck’s live performance style, characterized by his unique brand of intellectual satire and wordplay that often targeted the bureaucratic absurdities of the post-war German political landscape.
The album serves as a document of Finck's enduring influence on the German cabaret tradition. Known for his ability to critique authority while avoiding direct confrontation, Finck utilized a sophisticated, understated delivery that made his social commentary both biting and elusive to censors. The design reflects the minimalist aesthetic of 1960s German spoken-word records, prioritizing the speaker's persona as the central focus of the listening experience.
