Where it came from
Released in 1981 by Polydor, this record serves as a localized musical celebration of the Zurich region, specifically highlighting the cultural identities of the Züri-Unterland and Züri-Oberland areas. It was produced during a period when regional folk music, or Volksmusik, saw a sustained effort to preserve traditional Swiss rural sounds against the backdrop of rapid industrial modernization in the canton of Zurich.
The album functions as a collaborative compilation featuring several prominent regional ensembles, including the Jodelfamilie Reichmuth-Kistler and the Musikgesellschaft Glattfelden. The music is characterized by the distinct Alpine choral and brass arrangements typical of the era's Swiss folk productions, designed to evoke a sense of Heimat or homecoming for local listeners. The project was received primarily as a regional archival piece, serving as a snapshot of the traditional performance styles that defined the communal festivities of the early 1980s.
