Where it came from
Released in 2021 on the label La Compagnie des Possibles, Waiting for Tea Time is a collaborative project led by accordionist Régis Huiban and L’ensemble des Imaginaires. The work emerges from a tradition of contemporary French jazz and chamber music that seeks to blur the lines between structured composition and spontaneous improvisation, reflecting Huiban’s ongoing interest in acoustic textures and the poetic potential of the accordion within a modern ensemble setting.
The album’s design and musical direction focus on creating an atmosphere of deliberate pacing and introspection. Huiban, known for his work in diverse musical spheres, aimed to capture a sense of suspended time through these recordings. Upon its release, the project was noted for its delicate interplay between the accordion and the surrounding instrumentation, earning recognition among enthusiasts of modern European jazz and avant-garde folk for its technical precision and nuanced arrangements.
