Where it came from
Released in 2024 through the label Staatsakt, this record represents a collaborative project featuring the work of actor and musician Robert Stadlober interpreting the literary legacy of journalist and satirist Kurt Tucholsky. The project emerges from a long-standing German tradition of musical recitation, bridging the gap between Weimar-era political commentary and contemporary artistic performance. By focusing on Tucholsky's sharp, incisive observations regarding human morality and societal hypocrisy, the production aims to revitalize mid-twentieth-century skepticism for a modern audience.
The aesthetic and curatorial intent behind the album centers on the tension suggested by its title, which translates to a reflection on the fragile nature of goodness. Stadlober, known for his deep engagement with German cultural history, leans into a stark, minimalist delivery that prioritizes the text above overt musical ornamentation. The design choices for AKT904LP emphasize the directness of Tucholsky's prose, framing the listener's experience as an intimate encounter with the source material rather than a mere performance piece.
