Where it came from
Released in 1965 by Polskie Nagrania Muza, this recording represents a significant effort to document the development of Polish woodwind literature spanning from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. By pairing classical-era composers like Antoni Milwid and Franciszek Lessel with modernists such as Piotr Perkowski and Jan Krenz, the label aimed to showcase the evolving sophistication of the Polish symphonic tradition under the direction of Zbigniew Chwedczuk and the Pomeranian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
The production reflects the mid-century mission of the Polish state-owned label to archive national heritage, providing a rare platform for woodwind concertos that are frequently overshadowed by larger orchestral works. The design of the sleeve adheres to the minimalist, high-contrast aesthetic typical of the Muza label during the 1960s, which prioritized clarity and institutional authority to appeal to both domestic academic circles and international listeners interested in the Eastern Bloc's unique musical landscape.
