Where it came from
Released in 2018 on the Ghostly International label, X-Altera is the self-titled studio album by the project of British producer Martin Stürt. Emerging from the electronic music scene, the album serves as an exploration of the intersection between nineties-era jungle, drum and bass, and the refined, atmospheric aesthetics that have defined the Ghostly label's catalog. Stürt designed the record to serve as a rhythmic homage to the rapid-fire breakbeats of the UK rave underground while maintaining a modern, experimental production polish.
The album was conceived as a multi-layered synthesis of frantic percussion and ambient texture, reflecting Stürt's desire to bridge historical rave nostalgia with forward-thinking sound design. Upon its release, X-Altera was received by music critics as a sophisticated evolution of high-tempo electronic music, often noted for its technical precision and the seamless way it navigates the legacy of its influences without succumbing to mere imitation.
