Where it came from
Released in 2001 under the X-Factor Records label, this record represents a specific moment in the early 2000s electronic and dance music underground. X-Factor Records functioned as a platform for producers seeking to distribute track-focused vinyl directly to club DJs and collectors, emphasizing the functional, stripped-back aesthetics that defined the era's techno and house scenes.
The design of XFACTOR002 follows the functionalist tradition of the independent dance label, prioritizing the physical format for use in live performance environments. By focusing on minimal artwork and catalog-driven identification, the record emphasizes the sonic identity of the producer over decorative embellishment, a common practice among independent boutique imprints during the transition to the digital era.
