Provenance

Where it came from

Released by the state-owned Melodiya label in 1983, this record is part of a broader series dedicated to archiving the landscape of Russian and Soviet poetry. These spoken-word recordings were designed to preserve the oral tradition of literature, offering listeners an intimate connection to the cadences and rhythms of classic and contemporary verse that defined the cultural curriculum of the era.

The disc features readings by Alexander Prokofiev and Pavel Vasiliev, two poets whose works capture the transition from the lyrical traditions of the early twentieth century to the stylistic shifts of the Soviet period. The selection reflects the standard aesthetic approach of Melodiya's literary series, which prioritized clarity and didactic resonance to ensure the accessibility of these historical texts to a wide audience of students, scholars, and poetry enthusiasts.
