Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday / Ave Maria

Released in 1969 on the Tamla Motown label, Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday was a significant track in Stevie Wonder's transition from his earlier child-star persona into a more mature, introspective vocalist. The song, written by Ron Miller and Bryan Wells, features the soulful, emotive delivery that became a hallmark of Wonder's late-sixties output, capturing a nostalgic and melancholic tone that resonated deeply with international audiences.

The production represents the classic Motown sound of the era, balancing orchestral arrangements with Wonder's distinct vocal phrasing. While the song initially served as a standalone single, it became one of Wonder's most successful international hits of the period. It is often regarded as a bridge between his early pop efforts and the critically acclaimed, complex works he would release during the 1970s, marking a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution.
