Where it came from
Released in 2018 through Because Music, Zig-Zague serves as a retrospective compilation for the French alternative rock band Les Négresses Vertes. The collection was curated to honor the group's distinctive fusion of world music, chanson, and punk sensibilities that emerged from the Paris scene in the late 1980s. It marks a significant moment in the band's legacy, intended to reintroduce their energetic, multicultural sound to a new generation of listeners.
The design of the collection leans into the vibrant, nomadic aesthetic that defined the band's identity throughout their career. By gathering tracks that span their most influential eras, the production team aimed to capture the polyglot spirit of their debut and subsequent studio albums. The reception has been largely favorable among longtime followers, serving as a comprehensive touchstone for a band known for their defiance of rigid genre classification.
