Where it came from
Released in 2015 on the Norwegian label Trunkfunk Records, Zip-Zap represents a specific moment in the Oslo house and techno scene. Vinny Villbass, a central figure in the city's electronic music community and a veteran of the local club circuit, crafted this record to showcase his penchant for percussive, groove-oriented arrangements that bridge the gap between traditional house music and more experimental, rhythm-focused electronic compositions.
The design and production of TF 030 reflect the minimalist, functional aesthetic typical of Trunkfunk’s catalog. Villbass aimed to create a tool for the dance floor, focusing on layered synth hooks and tight, punchy low-end production. Upon its release, the record was well-received within the underground DJ circuit, earning appreciation from critics and selectors who favored his refined, no-nonsense approach to classic deep house tropes.
