Provenance

Where it came from

This recording is part of the Pelca label's extensive documentation of European pipe organs, a series highly regarded by enthusiasts of liturgical music and organ construction. Released under the catalog number PSR 40 640, the record focuses on the distinct tonal qualities of the instruments housed in the Kirche Glaubten in Zürich-Affoltern and the Reformierte Kirche in Zürich-Oerlikon. It captures a diverse program spanning the Baroque to the late Romantic periods, featuring works by masters such as Bach, Pachelbel, and Beethoven.

The album reflects a broader mid-20th-century effort to preserve the sonic character of regional Swiss church organs through high-fidelity location recording. The production emphasizes an authentic acoustic environment, aiming to transport the listener into the physical space of the churches. While the specific performers and engineers are often secondary to the instruments themselves in this series, the selection of repertoire was curated to showcase the registration capabilities and mechanical nuances of the two specific pipe organs featured.
