Where it came from
Released in 1956, this single was produced for the Zürifäscht, the massive public festival celebrating the city of Zurich. The track 'I Han Halt Züri Gern' served as a commemorative anthem, capturing the festive local spirit of the era. It reflects the post-war tradition of Swiss labels like Elite Special producing regional folk recordings to anchor community identity and provide musical accompaniment to civic celebrations.
The record features the vocal stylings of the Jodeltrio Mumenthaler-Pfyl-Israng, a group emblematic of the mid-century Swiss folk revival. Their performance style emphasizes the harmonic structures of traditional yodeling mixed with the jaunty, upbeat rhythms common to Schlager music of the 1950s. The record was designed as a tangible memento for festival attendees, showcasing a straightforward, utilitarian aesthetic typical of local Swiss record production from that decade.
