Where it came from
Amorphage Infection was released in the 2016 Shining Victories booster set, a core release for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. The card is part of the Amorphage archetype, a group of Earth-attributed Dragon monsters characterized by their parasite-like nature and their ability to lock players out of specific game mechanics. Designed to emphasize a 'parasitic' synergy, the deck relies on maintaining these monsters on the field to exert control over the state of play.
The artwork and conceptual design for the Amorphage series revolve around the theme of biological corruption. This continuous spell card specifically represents the spread of the infection, providing a modest stat boost to Amorphage monsters while facilitating resource management by allowing players to search their deck upon the destruction of their own cards. Upon its release, the archetype was noted for its unique, restrictive playstyle, though it remained a niche choice in competitive formats due to the fragility of its engine.
