Amphibian Beast

Amphibian Beast was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the initial Japanese releases before appearing in Western sets. It belongs to the early era of the game's design, characterized by simple, flavor-text-heavy normal monsters that were intended to populate the game's expansive roster during its formative years. The card was eventually included in Dark Beginning 1, a compilation set released in 2004 designed to provide players with easier access to cards that had previously appeared in early booster packs and starter decks.

The creature's design reflects the early aesthetic sensibilities of the Konami art team, which frequently drew upon themes of elemental hybridity and aquatic monstrosities. As a low-level normal monster, it was never intended for competitive play but rather served as a foundational piece for building rudimentary decks. Its presence in the Dark Beginning set signifies the game's commitment to preserving its original card pool, ensuring that collectors and casual players could acquire pieces from the game's historical beginning in a reprinted format.
