Provenance

Where it came from

Released as part of the Eternity Code booster set in 2020, this card belongs to the Ancient Warriors archetype, a series inspired by the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The set was designed to introduce specialized strategies based on the legendary figures and military tactics of the Three Kingdoms period in China, bridging classic literature with the strategic mechanics of the game.

The Borrowing of Arrows spell card specifically references the clever stratagem employed by Zhuge Liang during the Battle of Red Cliffs, where he used straw-covered boats to trick the enemy into firing thousands of arrows at his fleet. The illustration captures this tactical maneuver, reflecting the design team's commitment to translating historical lore into game mechanics that emphasize resource redirection and defensive play.
