Ancient Warriors Saga - Defense of Changban

Defense of Changban was released as part of the Ignition Assault core booster set in early 2020. The card is based on the historic Battle of Changban, a pivotal conflict during the late Eastern Han dynasty where the warlord Zhang Fei famously held off the army of Cao Cao at a bridge to allow the retreat of Liu Bei's forces. This narrative inspiration aligns with the card's function as a defensive trap, echoing the tactical stand depicted in Chinese historical literature and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The card was designed to support the Ancient Warriors archetype, a series of cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game that draws heavily from the figures and events found in the Three Kingdoms period. The illustration focuses on the thematic elements of the defense, utilizing the game’s distinct artistic style to evoke a sense of strategic resistance. As a rare-tier card within the set, it serves as a niche utility piece for players building decks around the Ancient Warriors theme, generally noted for its thematic cohesion rather than competitive meta-dominance.
