Provenance

Where it came from

The Ancient Warriors Saga - Sun-Liu Alliance was introduced in the 2020 Ignition Assault booster set, a release designed to expand upon the Ancient Warriors archetype. This archetype draws its thematic inspiration from the historical figures and epic narratives of the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history, specifically the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The card captures the iconic strategic coalition between the warlords Sun Quan and Liu Bei, a pivotal moment in the historical conflict against Cao Cao.

The design of the card emphasizes the faction's focus on field presence and support, mechanical elements intended to reflect the collaborative military efforts of the two leaders. Like many cards within the Ignition Assault series, the artwork is styled to evoke a sense of traditional ink-wash painting mixed with modern card game aesthetics, aiming to bridge the gap between historical reverence and contemporary gameplay utility. It was received by players as a specialized tool for dedicated Ancient Warriors decks, valued for its ability to facilitate board setup during competitive play.
