Provenance

Where it came from

And the Band Played On was released as part of the OTS Tournament Pack 20, a promotional set distributed exclusively through Konami’s Official Tournament Store program. This set was curated to provide players with accessible versions of specific cards while introducing higher-rarity versions of others, serving as a staple resource for the competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game community.

The card was originally introduced to the game to serve as a disruptive floodgate, designed to restrict players from summoning monsters with the same name as those already on the field or in the graveyard. Its illustration and mechanical design lean into the theme of controlling the tempo of a duel, reflecting a design philosophy focused on high-stakes board management and counter-play strategy.
