Archnemeses Protos

Archnemeses Protos was released in the 2020 expansion set Eternity Code for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As part of the Nemeses archetype, the card represents the culmination of the series' lore, which centers on characters capable of traversing dimensions and manipulating different attributes. It was designed to function as a powerful boss monster, utilizing the game's graveyard-management mechanics to disrupt opponent strategies by preventing the summoning of specific attributes.

The card’s aesthetic and mechanical identity reflect the high-power design philosophy prevalent in the late VRAINS era of the game. Illustrated to convey a sense of cosmic menace, its artwork emphasizes the character's role as an ultimate antagonist within its narrative arc. Upon its release, it was recognized by the competitive community for its significant impact on the meta-game, leading to various restrictions and bans in tournament play due to its oppressive lock-down capabilities.
