Armored Lizard

Armored Lizard was released as part of the Metal Raiders booster set, which hit the North American market in 2002. As one of the early expansions for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, Metal Raiders played a pivotal role in expanding the card pool beyond the initial Starter Decks and Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon. The set was designed to introduce more complex archetypes and support, helping to solidify the game's mechanics during its formative years of international growth.

The creature design reflects the aesthetic of the early Konami card catalog, which often drew from fantasy motifs and tabletop role-playing tropes. As a common-rarity Normal Monster, Armored Lizard served as a foundational unit in the game's early competitive environment, providing players with a water-attributed beast to flesh out their decks. The illustration, consistent with the era's digital art style, emphasizes the heavy plating that characterizes the monster, adhering to the straightforward monster-combat focus of the time.
