Provenance

Where it came from

Ascending Soul was released in the Absolute Powerforce booster set, which debuted in the TCG in early 2010. This set was notable for its focus on providing support for various archetypes introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s era, specifically catering to decks that relied on the graveyard and the summoning of powerful monsters. The card reflects the mechanical identity of the period, emphasizing resources management and the thematic importance of the soul or spirit within the franchise's lore.

The card was illustrated with a design consistent with the high-fantasy aesthetic typical of the era, focusing on the visual representation of a spiritual transition. As a rare-tier card within the set, it served as a utility piece intended to bolster specific synergy-based strategies. It was received by players as a niche support option, valued primarily by collectors and enthusiasts of the 5D’s thematic card pool rather than being a centerpiece of the competitive meta at the time.
