Provenance

Where it came from

Axe of Despair was originally introduced in the Metal Raiders expansion set in 2002. As one of the earliest Equip Spell cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, it was designed to provide a straightforward, significant offensive boost to a monster, reflecting the game's initial focus on simple combat interactions and card advantage.

The Battle Pack: Epic Dawn release, which featured this specific common printing, was introduced by Konami in 2012 as a sealed-play experience designed to emulate a draft format. By reprinting staple cards like Axe of Despair, the set aimed to provide players with accessible tools to bolster their deck strength during limited events, honoring the card's enduring legacy as a classic utility item.
