Provenance

Where it came from

Backfire was originally introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Soul of the Duelist expansion set in 2004, later appearing in the Dark Revelation Volume 2 reprint set. Designed as a continuous trap card, it reflects the game's evolving mechanics during the GX era, where developers began exploring burn damage strategies centered around specific monster attributes.

The card's illustration depicts a tactical exchange consistent with the fire-themed archetypes of the time. While it never achieved status as a competitive staple, it remains a recognized piece of card history for players who engaged with the Elemental HERO and Pyro-attribute support decks that defined the card's functional context during its release.
