Backfire

Backfire was released as part of the Onslaught of the Fire Kings Structure Deck in 2013, a set designed to introduce players to the Fire King archetype. The deck focused on a cycle of destruction and revival, centering on Fire King High Avatar Garunix to clear the field and return for repeated assaults. Within this strategic framework, the card serves as a supporting tool to punish opponents whenever fire monsters are destroyed, fitting the theme of a deck built around explosive, self-sacrificial plays.

The card features an illustration consistent with the aggressive, elemental aesthetic of the Fire King series, characterized by bold, fiery imagery. As a common rarity staple within a structure deck, its design was intended to provide accessible synergy for players learning to master the game's reactive mechanics. It remains a recognizable piece from the era of late-GX and early-Zexal era support, valued primarily for its functional role in mono-attribute deck building.
