Belial - Marquis of Darkness

Belial - Marquis of Darkness was released in 2009 as part of the Gates of the Underworld Structure Deck. This set was designed to support the Dark World archetype, a popular strategy centered on discarding monsters to trigger specific card effects. The card was intended to function as a high-level boss monster for players focusing on Fiend-type monsters, providing a protective effect that keeps the player from being targeted by spells, traps, or monster effects while the card remains face-up on the field.

The design of the card reflects the gothic aesthetic associated with the Dark World set, characterized by dark, demonic illustrations typical of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game era. As a common rarity card, it was widely accessible to players looking to bolster their decks with low-cost, high-impact options. It received a moderate reception among casual players for its utility in shielding key board positions, though it did not see extensive use in professional competitive play.
