Provenance

Where it came from

Burden of the Mighty was released in the 2017 Starter Deck: Link Strike, a set designed to introduce players to the Link Summoning mechanic, a fundamental shift in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game ecosystem. As a continuous spell card, it serves a strategic role by globally reducing the ATK of all monsters an opponent controls based on their level, effectively turning the opponent's strongest assets into liabilities.

The card's design aesthetic leans into a high-fantasy, imposing tone, fitting the broader mechanical intent of the set to provide newcomers with reliable tools to handle high-level threats. While it is a common card, its utility has made it a staple in budget-friendly decks and casual play, as it offers a straightforward, passive way to level the playing field against boss monsters that might otherwise be difficult to overcome.
