Cannon Soldier MK-2

Cannon Soldier MK-2 was released in the 2008 Phantom Darkness booster set, a pivotal expansion in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game that introduced the Dark Attribute theme. The card serves as a mechanical successor to the original Cannon Soldier, continuing the aesthetic of industrial, war-themed monsters that characterized early archetypes within the game. It was designed to function as an effect-based monster capable of sacrificing other creatures to deal direct damage to the opponent, a mechanic that has historically remained a controversial yet central part of the game's competitive history.

The artwork for the card features a heavily armored, robotic infantry unit, consistent with the gritty, militaristic visual style prevalent in the GX-era card sets. Like many common-rarity cards from this period, it was intended to provide accessible utility for players building decks around attribute-specific synergies or machine-type strategies. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors interested in building out their Dark-attribute rosters, even if its competitive utility was often overshadowed by its more infamous predecessor.
