Provenance

Where it came from

Contract with the Dark Master was originally released in the 2004 Japanese set Soul of the Duelist before appearing in the English Dark Revelation Volume 1 compilation set. Designed as a Normal Spell card for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, it serves as a support card for the Dark Master - Zorc archetype. The card's mechanics reflect the high-stakes narrative of the series, requiring players to offer specific tributes to summon powerful figures from the dark side of the game's lore.

The visual design of the card leans into the gothic and ritualistic aesthetic prevalent in early Yu-Gi-Oh! card art. Illustrators focused on conveying a sense of forbidden pacts and occult influence through deep shadows and menacing iconography. While the card is a common rarity and did not become a staple in professional competitive play, it remains a notable inclusion for collectors who focus on the expansive set releases that defined the mid-2000s era of the game.
