Copycat

Copycat was released in the Starter Deck: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's in 2008, serving as an introduction to the 5D's era of the card game. The card features an effect that mimics the attack and defense of an opponent's monster, a mechanic designed to punish players who rely on summoning high-statted creatures without defensive utility. It was created by Kazuki Takahashi's design team to provide newer players with a strategic tool that rewards tactical assessment of the opponent's field.

The card's design features an illustrative style consistent with the early 5D's aesthetic, depicting a whimsical creature reflecting the appearance of its target. While it remains a common rarity card, it has become a staple of casual play due to its simple yet effective ability to level the playing field. It is regarded by the community as a classic utility monster that maintains its relevance by scaling proportionally with the power level of the monsters it copies.
