Frequency Magician

Frequency Magician was introduced in the Starter Deck: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, released in 2008 to coincide with the launch of the third major Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series. The card was designed to support the new Synchro Summoning mechanic, which allowed players to send a Tuner monster and one or more non-Tuner monsters to the Graveyard to summon more powerful entities from the Extra Deck. As a low-level spellcaster, Frequency Magician served as a functional, accessible entry point for players learning the updated gameplay flow of the 5D's era.

The card features art consistent with the series' transition toward more sleek, futuristic aesthetics compared to the original Duel Monsters era. Like many cards from the starter decks of this period, the illustration aimed to emphasize the magical archetype's role as a support engine rather than a central powerhouse. It was received by the player base as a utility card, valued primarily for its ability to generate Spell Counters and facilitate the then-novel Synchro plays that defined the 5D's competitive environment.
