The Cyberdark Dragon was originally introduced as an Ultra Rare card in the 2007 set Cyberdark Impact, reflecting the series' thematic shift toward machine-dragon hybrids favored by the antagonist Zane Truesdale in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX animated series. The design team sought to emphasize a dark, industrial aesthetic, combining mechanical components with organic draconic features to represent the corrupted evolution of the Cyber Dragon archetype. It served as a powerful fusion boss monster that required specific 'Cyberdark' monsters as materials, rewarding players for maintaining a graveyard full of dragon-type monsters to boost its attack power.

The version included in Legendary Duelists: Season 1, released as LDS1-EN036, was issued as a common card to provide players with more accessible entry points into classic deck strategies. This collection was curated to repackage iconic cards from the Legendary Duelists series, aiming to make historically significant or fan-favorite cards easier to obtain for casual play and deck building. While the artwork retains the original aggressive, shadowy illustration style, this reprint allowed a new generation of players to experience the high-risk, high-reward mechanics characteristic of the Cyberdark archetype.
