Cyberdark Keel was originally introduced as a core component of the Cyberdark archetype, which debuted in the Cyberdark Impact booster set during the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era. Designed by Konami, the Cyberdark monsters were themed around a dark, industrial aesthetic, blending mechanical machinery with organic dragon elements. They were intended to provide a specialized graveyard-reliant strategy that allowed players to equip high-level dragon monsters to gain significant attack power, reflecting a shift toward more complex, interaction-based combat in the card game.

The Duel Terminal 5a printing, designated as DT05-EN002, was part of the Duel Terminal arcade series expansion. These cards were notable for their unique parallel rare holographic finish and their integration into an arcade-based format that allowed players to scan physical cards to control units in a virtual environment. While the art remained consistent with the original release—depicting the sharp, jagged, and menacing cybernetic dragon aesthetic characteristic of artist Kazuki Takahashi’s broader influence on the game—the Duel Terminal release served to reintroduce the series to a new generation of players within a distinct, high-tech cabinet gaming context.
