Dark Armed Dragon was originally introduced as a Secret Rare in the 2008 Phantom Darkness expansion, rapidly becoming one of the most powerful and feared cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Its ability to repeatedly banish Dark monsters from the graveyard to destroy cards on the field defined the competitive 'Tele-DAD' meta, a deck strategy that dominated professional tournaments throughout that year. Its inclusion in the 2009 Gold Series was intended to make this high-impact card more accessible to the general player base, reprinting it with the distinct gold-bordered frame and golden foil etching characteristic of the series.
