Dark Blade

Dark Blade was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game during the early 2000s, serving as a classic example of the game's foundational monster designs. By the time it was reprinted in the 2011 Starter Deck: Dawn of the Xyz, it had become a nostalgic staple, representing the transition from traditional combat mechanics to the then-new Xyz Summoning era. The artwork reflects the dark, gothic aesthetic popularized by early fantasy-themed sets, focusing on a heavily armored dragon-knight warrior.

The card was designed by Konami’s creative team to bolster the variety of Level 4 Normal Monsters available to players. While its mechanics are straightforward, providing a baseline attacker with modest stats, it was received as a reliable utility card for beginners learning the game. Its inclusion in the Dawn of the Xyz starter deck was intended to bridge the gap between legacy deck-building styles and the modern mechanics introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal anime series.
