Energy Drain

Energy Drain was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the Dark Revelation Volume 2 set, which was released in North America in 2005. As a reprint set, Dark Revelation Volume 2 was designed to provide players with easier access to cards that had previously been released across several earlier expansion sets, ensuring that the competitive meta-game remained accessible to a wider audience during that era.

The card was originally designed for the Japanese OCG (Official Card Game) and carries the hallmark fantasy aesthetics of early Konami trap cards. Its function—lowering an opponent's attack points based on the number of cards in their hand—reflects the strategic focus of the mid-2000s, where hand management and board state manipulation were central pillars of competitive play. While considered a common rarity, it remains a nostalgic artifact of a period defined by the transition toward more complex chain-link mechanics.
