Evilswarm Hraesvelg

Evilswarm Hraesvelg was released in the Duel Terminal 7a booster set, a series unique for its integration with the arcade-based Duel Terminal machines in Japan. The card is part of the Evilswarm archetype, which serves as a corrupted reimagining of the Steelswarm faction within the overarching Duel Terminal storyline. In this narrative, the remains of the Steelswarm were infested by the corruptive 'lswarm' virus, resulting in a darker, more aggressive iteration of the original machine-like entities.

The design of the card leans into the aesthetic of a mechanical bird of prey, drawing inspiration from the mythical Hraesvelgr of Norse legend, who sits at the edge of the world and causes winds by flapping its wings. The artwork captures this menacing, biomechanical shift typical of the Duel Terminal aesthetic, focusing on sharp, angular plating and a sinister color palette. Upon its release, it was recognized by players primarily for its utility in disrupting the graveyard, a key tactical role within the competitive landscape of the era.
