Exploder Dragon

Exploder Dragon first appeared in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Force of the Breaker set in 2007. Its design, characterized by the ability to destroy an opponent's monster upon being destroyed in battle, was created to act as a reactive removal tool. This mechanic reflected a broader design philosophy within the game at the time, which favored cards that could punish aggressive playstyles and punish opponents who committed high-value resources to the field.

The specific version here, BP03-EN028, was released in the 2014 Battle Pack 3: Monster League. This set was engineered specifically for a 'sealed pack' draft format, focusing on providing a balanced environment where players could build decks on the fly. As a common rarity card within this set, it served as a functional utility piece, ensuring players had access to removal effects to manage the board state during competitive drafts.
