Fabled Leviathan

Fabled Leviathan was released in 2011 as part of the Duel Terminal 3 expansion, a set that introduced the unique mechanics of the Duel Terminal arcade cabinets to the North American market. As a high-level Synchro Monster, it serves as the centerpiece for 'The Fabled' archetype, a series of light-attribute, fiend-type monsters characterized by their reliance on discarding cards to trigger powerful effects. The design aesthetic draws heavily from chaotic, mythological iconography, aiming to provide a visually imposing boss monster that reflects the archetype's high-risk, high-reward playstyle.

The card was designed under the creative direction of Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG team to capitalize on the popularity of the 'discard-to-draw' game mechanics prevalent in the 5D's era of the card game.
