Flame Ghost

Flame Ghost was released in 2002 as part of the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon booster set, the inaugural English-language expansion for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As a fusion monster requiring the combination of Flame Manipulator and Masaki the Legendary Swordsman, it reflects the early design philosophy of the game, which leaned heavily on incorporating classic elemental archetypes and traditional fantasy character motifs often found in the original manga.

The card’s illustration follows the aesthetic established by Kazuki Takahashi and the Konami design team, utilizing a high-contrast style typical of the early sets to differentiate fusion monsters from standard effect or normal cards. While not competitively prominent in the evolving metagame, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors, representing the foundational era when fusion mechanics were first introduced to international players.
