Gladiator Beast Murmillo

Gladiator Beast Murmillo was introduced in the 2007 expansion set Gladiator's Assault, marking the debut of the Gladiator Beast archetype in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Designed to reflect the Roman theme of the archetype, the card features a fish-like gladiator, drawing inspiration from the historical 'murmillo' class of Roman combatants. The card's mechanics were built around the tag-out system central to the archetype, providing players with a targeted destruction effect that served as a core removal tool for the deck.

The artwork and character design for the Gladiator Beast series were developed by the creative team at Konami to emphasize tactical versatility and historical motifs. As a rare-tier card within the set, Murmillo became a staple for competitive players throughout the late 2000s, as its ability to be special summoned from the deck after battle made it an essential asset for maintaining board control. Its reception was largely positive among players who favored control-oriented strategies, cementing its status as an iconic component of one of the game's most enduring archetypes.
