Green Phantom King

The Green Phantom King was released as part of the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon set, the inaugural booster release for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in North America in 2002. This set was designed to introduce the foundational elements of the game, translating the mechanics and creature designs originally established in the Japanese OCG version by Konami. As a normal monster, the card serves as a basic building block for early deck construction, reflecting the gothic and fantasy-driven aesthetic that defined the initial wave of the franchise's card art.

The design of the Green Phantom King draws from the darker, creature-heavy artistic direction favored by the game's original illustrators during its debut era. By portraying a spectral, arboreal monarch, the card fits the archetype of lower-level monsters that players used to fill out their ranks before the introduction of more complex effect-based strategies. It remains a piece of nostalgia for early collectors, representing the utilitarian and atmospheric design philosophy that grounded the game during its transition into the global market.
